Rice Family Honey Packaging
The Rice Family has been collecting honey from their farm in Greeley, Colorado since 1924. This family-owned business is now in its 5th generation and still produces completely raw, unfiltered honey on the original family bee farm.
Our goals for this project were to create a new label for their existing container, to pay tribute to the original founder and to emphasize the raw, unfiltered qualities of the honey.
The existing product line is called L.R. Rice Honey, in honor of the founding father, L.R. Rice. The problem with this product name is that no one knows who L.R. Rice is. His name alone does not communicate the family-owned, farm-fresh qualities of the brand. Thus, Brandcory proposed to change the name of the product to Rice Family Honey Farm.
In order to give reason to celebrate L.R. Rice, I developed a character illustration and a story about him. L.R. Rice became the pied-piper of bees. With his magical flute, Mr. Rice lulls all the bees of Greeley, Colorado to make his honey. It was only fitting that a hand-drawn illustration style reflect the raw, unfiltered quality of the honey and the whimsy of the brand story.
